Determination of the force deformation behavior of paper stacks in the thickness direction
How to determine the exact amount of sheets is a very important aspect in the post processing. There are three methods which are generally used in the design of Paper Counting Machines: optical determination, gravimetrical determination and mechanical determination. Speed and accuracy that is necessary to obtain the quantity control needed.
Generally, the three main directions of the paper machine: the machine direction (MD), the cross-machine direction (CD) and the through-thickness direction (ZD) are used as the principal directions of the paper material. And the force deformation behavior of the paper in the thickness direction is of utmost important. By doing a deep research about the relationship between the force and the deformation of paper stacks in ZD-direction can we also find a way to determine the amount of the papers.
During the past few years, considerable progress has been made in the investigation of the mechanical characters of paper under the forces in MD-direction and CD-direction, but the research about the compressive behavior in ZD-direction is limited and most of the researches of which are mainly focusing on only one piece of paper.
In this research, we want to propose practical models of a stack of papers (theoretical model and simulation model) to investigate the relationship between the deformation and the amount of the sheets. Also these models can be validated by doing some experiments.
