Research

Organic field effect transistors: flexo- and gravure-printed thin and homogeneous layers

In order to built up flexible organic field effect transistors, it is necessary to produce thin and homogeneous layers. Regarding mass production of printed organic electronics, the reproducibility and the quality of the printed layers are of great importance. Flexographic and gravure printing have proved to be suitable techniques.

By printing the semiconducting layer and the dielectric layer on top of each other, we build up flexible and air-stable transistors. Besides the morphological characterization at IDD, the electrical characterization is done in close cooperation with the Institute of Integrated Electronic Systems, Microelectronic Systems.

Currently research at IDD focusses on the printing process of dielectric layers. Besides characterization of fluids, substrates (foils) and printed layers, the process is optimized by the adjustment of printing-parameters. In addition to that we focus on the drying process, which should be modified by varying the fluid formulation.
