Additive manufacturing has been used in development, research and prototyping for years. It can be found wherever complex, individual components are produced in small quantities. In industrial mass production, on the other hand, where large quantities are required, 3D printing is still almost never found. Although it is possible to produce components at high cycle rates and in large quantities, industrial production is much less flexible and adapting the part geometry is costly and time-consuming.

My work is about building a bridge between both worlds by deriving (form) tools for medium series production directly from the component geometries and manufacturing them additively. The goal is not only to shorten the construction time of the forming tools, but also to automate the whole process of tool creation. The aim is to optimize the tool parameters both for later production and for the 3D printing process.

There is the possibility to award practical, constructive and theoretical projects/theses in a wide range of topics. The respective tasks can be arranged flexibly.
